WATERBURY — A Watertown resident died from “multiple serious injuries” after hitting a parked tractor-trailer on South Main Street on Wednesday, according to police.

Waterbury police responded shortly after midnight to a reported accident in the area of South Main Street at Verzier Street.

Arriving officers found that the driver of a white 2005 Nissan Altima had crossed from the northbound lane to the southbound lane and hit a parked, unoccupied tractor-trailer, police said.

The owner of the tractor trailer was notified of the crash and continues to cooperate with police.

The Nissan suffered heavy damage. Fire crews had to extricate the driver, who was identified by police Thursday as 31-year-old Christopher Oritz. He was rushed to the hospital where he was pronounced dead at 12:39 a.m., police said.

Police continue to investigate.
