FWHS backpack swiped, books left behind
A backpack and possessions valued at more than $350 were reported stolen from the Fairfield Warde High School boys' locker room Tuesday between 3 and 6 p.m.
The $90 backpack, which had been left under a bench, contained a $100 calculator, a $150 cell phone and $20 in cash, police said.
Textbooks, however, were removed from the backpack by the thief and left under the bench, police said.
Woman charged with DUI
Stacey Ferrara, 19, of Stratford, was charged about 1:45 a.m. Wednesday with driving under the influence and following too closely.
Ferrara rear-ended another car at the intersection of Black Rock Turnpike and Jennings Road, police said. She failed several field sobriety tests and had a blood-alcohol-content over 0.20, police said. The state's legal limit is 0.08.
She was released on $100 bond and is scheduled to appear May 10 in Bridgeport Superior Court.
GPS stolen from driveway
A Garmin GPS device valued at $158 was reported stolen about 9:30 a.m. Wednesday from a vehicle parked in a Hillandale Road driveway.
The complainant told police that the driver-side door was left unlocked Tuesday night and that the intruder had rummaged through the glove compartment.
