Popular children's authors gather at Pequot Library
R.L.Stine, the author of the "Goosebumps" series, and Bryan Collier, winner of a prestigious international award for children's books, will be among the 14 award-winning authors and illustrators at an all-day Children's Book Festival at Pequot Library. At the festival, on Saturday, Nov. 9, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., authors and illustrators will sign and read from their books, and offer artistic and literary demonstrations of all kinds. Numerous presentations and question-and-answer sessions by the writers and artists will be highlighted throughout the day. Picture books, middle grade and young adult books will also be for sale.
Stine is one of the most commercially successful novelists of the generation, selling more than 400 million copies of his books, including horror fiction aimed at young audiences, and joke books. Bryan Collier, author and illustrator of "Dave the Potter," has been nominated for the 2014 Hans Christian Andersen Award, a lifelong achievement award and the highest international distinction given to authors and illustrators of children's books. Other authors at the festival include Patricia Reilly Giff, the author of more than 100 books for children, including "The Kids of the Polk Street School," series, "The Friends and Amigos" books, and "Polka Dog Private Eye." Giff is also known to area residents through a children's bookstore that her family ran in Fairfield for many years. Barbara Mariconda, author of "The Voyage of Lucy P. Simmons: Lucy At Sea," and a former teacher at Mill Hill School, will also be appearing at the festival.
