Project by Southport architect featured in book
The 400-acre property, called Mount Fair, includes five structures in the National Register of Historical Places. It is also home to ruins of a slave quarters, and a slave and family cemetery dating back to the 1700s.
The project consisted renovating and restorating the 19th Century main residence and building an addition housing a new kitchen, mudroom, breezeway, garage, hunting room, exercise room and indoor pool. Finlay also turned the original icehouse and springhouse into two guest cottages and designed a barn complex with various farm buildings, a hay storage shed, indoor riding ring and a caretaker's cottage. He also devoted one acre of land for a solar field to power all of the buildings.
