New Canaan High School graduate Drew Pyne took the field for the University of Notre Dame when the Irish beat the University of South Florida 52-0 Saturday in South Bend, Ind.

Pyne, a freshman at Notre Dame, was 1 of 2 for five yards passing, and carried the ball once for four yards.

It was the first college action for Pyne, who in 2019 completed 161 of 252 passes for 2,107 yards and 24 touchdowns, throwing only seven interceptions, for New Canaan. He finished his career as New Canaan’s career leader in passing yards and touchdowns, throwing his 100th on Nov. 15, 2019.

The Irish improved to 2-0 with the victory, and travel to Winston-Salem, N.C., to face Wake Forest at noon Saturday, Sept. 26.

Pyne was listed as Notre Dame’s backup on the depth chart Saturday.
