Robert M. Olex, 78, of Rochester, N.H., died Feb. 25, 2010, at the Dover Rehabilitation & Living Center.

He was born July 15, 1931, in Bridgeport, son of the late Michael and Anna (Klamka) Olex.

Olex served his country in the U.S. National Guard as a cook and was a mail carrier in Westport for more than 20 years. He was a wonderful chef and loved to entertain friends and family. He spent his retirement years keeping up with his grandchildren, enjoying the arts, traveling, watching the Red Sox, reading English mysteries and assembling many jigsaw puzzles.

Members of his family include his wife of 30 years, Suzanne (Whittlesey) Olex of Rochester, N.H.; his son, Michael Olex and his wife, Judi, and grandchildren, Brian and Jeffery of Simi Valley, Calif.; his daughter, Barbara Karosy and her husband, Robert, and grandchildren, Jonathon and Robert of Bridgeport. His acquired family include Mark Arenberg and his wife, Deborah, and grandchildren, Benjamin and Sarah of South Berwick, Maine; Lisa Hazelton and her husband, Thomas of Milford; and Alexis Tucker and her husband, Doug, and grandchild, James Whittlesey of Exeter, N.H.

Calling hours took place March 1 at the R. M. Edgerly & Son Funeral Home, 86 South Main St., Rochester, N.H. A memorial service was celebrated March 2 in the chapel of the funeral home. Burial will be in the Oak Lawn Cemetery in Fairfield, in the spring.
