Reception Sunday for Trinity rector's photo exhibit
The exhibit, "Earthly Pilgrimages, Heavenly Visions," is on view in the Perkin Gallery of the library, 720 Pequot Ave., through Nov. 16.
An opening reception is planned from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday.
In conjunction with the photo exhibit, a collection of 19th and 20th century religious and secular artifacts on loan from Porter's family will also be on display.
Porter began experimenting with photography in the late 1980s while living in Egypt and traveling through Russia, Central Asia and India. In 1998, Porter and his wife Dorothy organized Anastasia Pilgrimages to introduce Americans and Europeans to the Near East, according to a library press release. Last year, they founded Jerusalem Ministries at Acer Farm, a peace education camp for Palestinian, Israeli and American teenagers.
A graduate of Yale University, Porter also holds advanced degrees in theology, Middle East studies and war studies.
Proceeds from the exhibit will benefit the Acer Farm camp founded by the Porters, as well as the library.
