FAIRFIELD — A three-car accident and a report of a reckless driver led to the arrest Friday evening of Trumbull resident John Cadray, 34.

Police received a call around 5:30 p.m. from a witness driving behind a yellow Mini Cooper northbound on Mill Plain Road. The car, the caller said, crossed over the double yellow line and was driving on the wrong side of the road before it veered back into the correct lane.

Cadray, police said, then made a right onto Brookside Drive and crashed into a car stopped at a stop sign near Mountain Laurel Road. The collision pushed that car into the car in front of it, which was also stopped at the stop sign.

According to the report, Cadray seemed confused and unable to answer simple questions. Officer Scott Sudora, the department’s certified drug recognition expert, came to the scene and identified behavior he said was symptomatic of heroin ingestion.

Cadray failed field sobriety tests and was charged with driving under the influence and following too closely. He was released on $100 bond and is scheduled to appear in state Superior Court in Bridgeport on Oct. 23.
