Police are investigating a report from Greenfield Animal Hospital about a caller fraudulently soliciting donations for Fairfield's police dog, Ruger.
A man, who identified himself as "Michael Gilley," called the animal hospital around 4 p.m. Monday to ask for donations. According to police, there is a fundraising campaign underway, but it is being done by the Connecticut Work Dogs Association. The association informed police it has no one by that name on its staff.
The phone number used by the soliciter was traced to a Derby address and a man who police said is convicted felon.
