Fairfield has apparently dodged a hurricane bullet.

The town’s Emergency Management Team on Friday evening said the latest meteorological updates on Hurricane Joaquin show the storm “heading out to sea and not impacting the Connecticut area, (so) the town is suspending storm preparations.”

But officials plan to monitor the storm through the weekend to ensure the forecast proves accurate, and that the hurricane does not make landfall.

However, there remains a coastal flood advisory this evening and tomorrow, particularly during high-tide periods, because of the heavy rain and winds that remain in the forecast.

Officials urge residents to sign up for Code Red alert messages on the town website, www.fairfieldct.org/codered.

Storm-related announcements from the Emergency Management Team will be posted at www.fairfieldct.org/storm.
