Report: More than $100K in jewelry swiped from Morehouse home
Police are investigating a report that more than $100,000 worth of jewelry was stolen last weekend from a Morehouse Drive home.
The homeowner reported the break-in Saturday evening after she had been away from the house for less than an hour. The locking mechanism on a basement sliding door had been broken to gain entry to the house, according to the report.
Several diamond solitaire rings, one with a three carat diamond, diamond earrings and two Movado watches were among the missing items. Also taken was $3,700 in cash that had been hidden behind a dresser drawer, police were told.
The homeowner said she left to go the mall at 7:30 p.m. Saturday. Her son and a friend left the house shortly after 7 p.m., and when he returned at 7:44 p.m., he could not get back in because he had apparently forgotten his keys, according to the report. The son called his mother and she came back from the mall and that is when they discovered the house had been burglarized.
