Report: Phony contractor distracted couple while rings were swiped
An elderly Suzanne Circle told police this week that two diamond rings were stolen from their home while they were distracted by a man claiming to be a contractor for one of their neighbors.
The couple reported that the man came to their door around 10:15 a.m. Tuesday and said he needed to check their property line to make sure he didn't take down any of their trees while doing tree removal for a neighbor.
While the couple joined him in the backyard, someone else apparently entered the home, and took two rings worth a total of $800, police said.
While they were all still in the yard, the man received a call on a his cell phone and had a brief conversation with someone he referred to as his boss, according to the report. A short time later, the man's phone rang again, and he answered, but said nothing. He then ended the call and left.
The couple later discovered that the rings were missing.
