Robert Clauson, 86 a longtime resident of Fairfield, died Jan. 16 at the Equinox Terrace in Manchester, Vt.

Born Aug. 8, 1924, in Bridgeport, he was the son of Harold W. and Viola (Sargent) Clauson. He was a 1942 graduate of Roger Ludlowe High School and received a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from Clarkson College of Technology in Potsdam, N.Y. He served with the U.S. Navy during World War II, where he was deployed in the South Pacific. In 1954, he married the former Barbara Doolan; she died in 1992.

He was a registered professional engineer and the owner of Fairco Inc. in Fairfield.

An avid skier and golfer, he was a member of the Sterling Ski Club in Stratford, the Algonquin Club in Bridgeport and the Brooklawn County Club in Fairfield. He also enjoyed watercolor and oil painting, as well as carving wooden duck decoys and shore birds.

Survivors include a son, Jason Clauson of Dallas, Texas; a daughter; Ann B. Clauson of Bridgeport; a brother; Donald Clauson of Melbourne, Fla., and a sister; Doris Boynton of Carefree, Ariz.

Private services will take place at the convenience of the family. Brewster Funeral Service in Manchester, Vt., handled the arrangements.
