Ronald S. Kott

MANISTEE — Ronald S. Kott, 79, of Manistee, Mich., died Friday night, March 24, 2017, at his home in Grant Township, surrounded by his family.

He was born on April 7, 1937, in Manistee, Mich., son of the late Floyd and Sylvia (Frelka) Kott.

He was a graduate of Saint Joseph High School with the class of 1955. Ronald married Monica R. Symanski on Sept. 28, 1957, at Saint Joseph Catholic Church in Manistee.

Ron was the owner and operator of his own business, Ronald Kott Masonry Construction, from 1975 until his retirement in 2000. He was a 50-year member of the Bricklayers International Union, Local No. 28, where he was a past financial secretary and business agent. He was also a member of the Divine Mercy Parish (Guardian Angels Catholic Church) of Manistee, a 50-year member of the Manistee Loyal Order of Moose, Lodge No. 1128/2315, where he was a past Governor and Junior Governor and was a life member of the Manistee Clan Muzzle Loading Club.

He is survived by his wife of almost 60 years, Monica R. Kott, of Manistee; his son, Brian Kott; and his daughter, Tracy Kott, both of Manistee, Mich.; his grandchildren, Chelsey (Dale) Kniss, Matthew (Talitha Loura) Lijewski, Kristina (Kurtis) Barrett, Joseph Benjamin Kott; three great-grandchildren, Myelah Lijewski, Chandler Barrett and Phylo Kniss; his sister, Betty Bradley, of Lakeview, Mich.; two sisters-in-law, Joanne Kott, of Manistee, Mich., and Gladys Kott, of Lake George, Fla. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive him.

Ronald was also preceded in death by his son, Randy Lee Kott; four brothers, David, Fabian, Gordon and Floyd “Bob” Kott; and two sisters and three brothers-in-law, Janet and David Hersey, Gloria and Lyle Fox, and Jim Bradley.

According to Ron’s wishes, cremation has taken place and Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 1, 2017, at Saint Joseph Catholic Church in Manistee with Rev. Richard Schaeffer celebrant. Burial will follow at Mount Carmel Cemetery also in Manistee.

Relatives and friends will pray the evening vigil service at 7 p.m. on Friday, March 31, 2017, at the Herbert Funeral Home in Manistee, where the Members of the Loyal Order of Moose will also conduct a memorial service for Ron at 7:30 p.m. The family will receive friends from 2-4 p.m. and 6:30-9 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home and from 10 a.m. until the time of Ron’s funeral Mass at 11 a.m. on Saturday at the church.

A memorial will be established in Ronald’s name for Hospice of Michigan. Envelopes are available at the funeral home and will be available at the church on Saturday morning. The Herbert Funeral Home of Manistee is in charge of funeral arrangements.
