The Sacred Heart University Band will embark on its first-ever international tour with a trip to Ireland this week to perform five different concerts with various local ensembles in the Irish cities of Dingle and Dublin.

A group of 55 students and three professional staff will depart Monday, Jan. 9, to kick off the tour on Wednesday, Jan. 11, at the Dingle Skellig Hotel in Dingle, home to the university's Center for Irish Cultural Studies.

The next day, the school's Brass Ensemble will present a concert in Dingle's Díseart Chapel with Band Director Keith Johnston on trombone and Music Instructor Galen Tate on organ.

The band will then head to Dublin to perform with the Mullingar Town Band Saturday, Jan. 14, followed the next day by a concert with the Clondalkin Youth Band. Later that day, the ensemble will perform again during Mass at St. Mary's Pro-Cathedral, the Cathedral Church of the Archdiocese of Dublin.

The university band's itinerary will also include a trip to the Cliffs of Mohrer and the Blarney stone.
