Saxophonist Bill Evans and his band Soulgrass -- who meld bluegrass, jazz and funk -- will perform in a free concert Saturday night, June 29, at the Fairfield Theatre Company's StageOne.

The show is scheduled at 7:30 p.m. at the 70 Sanford St. theater.

Evans performed with Miles Davis at

age 22, and in a 20-

plus-year career as a soloist has explored traditional jazz, rock, hip-hop, jam, fusion, reggae, Brazilian and funk.

He has recorded and toured with John McLaughlin, the Mahavishnu Orchestra, Herbie Hancock, Lee Ritenour, Dave Grusin, Steps Ahead and Mick Jagger.

Soulgrass is a collaboration of New Orleans Jazz Fest veterans. It features Evans on sax and vocals, Josh Dion on vocals and drums, Ryan Cavanaugh on banjo, Mitch "Moose" Stein on guitar, Clifford Carter on keyboards; and Andy Hess on bass.
