For the first time in its history, the Fairfield Senior Center, 100 Mona Terrace, will open for three Wednesday evenings this spring: May 8, May 22 and June 12, from 6 to 9 p.m.

The new hours are being offered in response to many baby boomers requesting in a senior center survey they would like programs that take place during the day to be offered on nights and weekends because many of them still work on weekdays.

A "Top 10 Committee Report on the Fairfield Senior Center" also indicates interest in evening hours.

The center is offering the new Wednesday hours as part of a spring and summer evening pilot program in anticipation of offering a fall Wednesday evening schedule.

Light refreshments will be served from 6 to 6:30 p.m., followed by a variety of activities, such as movies, yoga, dance and talks.

Also, the center's gift shop, art gallery with pieces for sale by local artists, ping pong table, pool and woodcarving areas will be open each night.

Activities during the spring evening hours are being offered for free.
