Chabad of Fairfield will hold a Shavuot celebration featuring a light dairy buffet, an ice cream party and the Ten Commandments on Wednesday, May 15. The free event will take place at 5:30 p.m. at its facility, 1571 Stratfield Road.

The holiday of Shavuot celebrates the giving of the Torah at Mount Sinai some 2,300 years ago and has become a celebration of fine dairy cuisine as well, according to a news release. As the Torah was given and the laws of kosher dining were first received, the Jewish People were not yet capable of properly preparing beef and poultry and as such ate dairy. Donations will be accepted.
