They were kickin' up the tempo Sunday night on Sherman Green.

Longtime Irish rock favorites Keltic Kick unleashed a blazin' performance on the gazebo before a large crowd, while members of the Fairfield Firefighters union -- sponsors of the concert -- were on hand to keep the "heat" under control and even cooked hot dogs for the audience in the process.

The band, made up of drummer Doug Abel, bass guitarist Bob Ross, lean guitarist Billy Donaldson and mandolin player Mike O'Reilly, wowed the crowd with a medley of Irish rock and traditional classics.

"Our union, the IAFF 1426, is proud to give back to the community, sponsoring this concert and giving away food and drinks," said Fire Dept. Lt. Bob Smith. The firefighters' support for one of the Parks and Recreation Department's summer concerts annually draws one of the largest crowds of the season.

Keltic Kick has been performing since 1980, and regularly takes the stage at area clubs, bars, private parties and the Gaelic American Club. For more information, visit www.KelticKick.com
