The fish were running — and so were the kids — but they had all the angles covered at the inlet near South Benson Marina as the Fairfield Police Athletic League hosted its annual Blues Fishing Derby on Saturday.

More than 70 people signed up for the annual tournament, with young fishermen paired with parents and other adults in the contest for finned quarry.

Contest categories recognized included “First Snapper Blue” caught by a boy and girl, “First Boy or Girl” to catch 10 fish, “Largest or Smallest Fish other than a Snapper Blue,” “Strangest Sea Animal” and “Biggest or Smallest Sea Robin.”

Prizes were donated by PAL, and included fishing poles, tackle boxes, lures and other related gear.
