FAIRFIELD — A Stamford man was charged with driving under the influence after police found him asleep and intoxicated behind the wheel of his stopped car with the engine running.

Officers were called to Taunton Road Dec. 17 on a report of a suspicious car that had been stopped in front of a home for half an hour with its lights on, police said. Police allegedly found Ryang Bereche asleep behind the wheel with the key in the ignition, lights on and engine running.

Police said while checking on the 25-year-old’s welfare, they noticed signs of intoxication. Bereche failed a field sobriety test and two breathalyzer tests showed blood alcohol contents of .113, then .110, according to police.

The resident of Reynolds Avenue in Stamford was charged with operating under the influence. He was released on a $100 bond ahead of his Dec. 27 court date.
