Heavy rains were forecast later Wednesday, but the high tide around noon triggered coastal flooding to the town’s shoreline.

In the Southport area, water washed over Perry’s Green and engulfed buildings at Ye Yacht Yard.

Meanwhile, elevated water levels are possible early Thursday, from noon to 2 a.m., in association with the next high tide, according to the National Weather Service.

Occasional showers and possibly a thunderstorm are also possible late Wednesday and into Thursday, the NWS says. The storms could generate gusty winds and heavy rain, as well as patchy fog after 10 p.m. Temperatures will rise into the low-60s by about 8 p.m.

Showers are likely early Thursday, according to the NWS, mainly before 7 a.m. Later, the skies are expected to clear and the day should be partly sunny, with a high temperature in the low-70s.
