"The Story of Art" is the theme of the Pequot Library's annual art show the weekend of Oct. 17-19.

A fundraising reception, set from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m., Oct. 18, at the library, 720 Pequot Ave., will include a showcase for fine art, cocktails and hors d'oeuvres, and a silent auction.

Organizers of the show say the Story of Art theme was selected because "artists are storytellers, inviting viewers to imagine their own stories," according to a news release.

The art in the show will include works by local award-winning artists in all mediums. Judges for "Best in Show" are Ryan Odinak and Jane Sutherland.

The art show is free to the public from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Oct. 17, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Oct. 18 and 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Oct 19.

Related activities over the course of the weekend include an Art of the Selfie workshop for children, from 4-5:30 p.m. Oct. 17. There is a $5 fee.

On Oct. 18, local art galleries will contribute some of their favorite art works for a display in the library's Perkin Gallery. Contributors include Amy Simon Fine Art, ARC Fine Art, Art/Place, J. Russell Jinishian Gallery, Bruce S. Kershner Gallery, Southport Galleries and Troy Fine Art Services. The exhibit will be on display from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

On Oct. 9, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., the public can have their antiques and heirlooms appraised during an Appraisal Day program. Experts from Heritage Auctions in New York City will evaluate heirloom items. There is a $20 fee per piece in advance, $25 at the door. Register at www.pequotlibrary.org.
