The Fairfield Public Library Woods Branch will host "Extremely Civil: Four Women and the American Civil War," a four-part lecture series, at 6:30 p.m. Mondays, April 9 and 23 and May 7 and 21, at the branch, 1147 Fairfield Woods Road.

Among the four women to be discussed are first lady Mary Todd Lincoln; Varina Davis, the wife of Confederate President Jefferson Davis; Harriet Beecher Stowe, the author of "Uncle Tom's Cabin" and Mary Chesnut, wife of the heir to a Southern plantation.

Speaker is Mona Garcia, who taught European history at the college level and is a reference librarian in the Fairfield Public Library system.
