An expert on palliative care -- which focuses on relieving the pain and stress of seriously ill patients -- will speak Thursday evening, Jan. 22, at the Westport Library. The free talk by Dr. Marvin Delgado-Guay is at 6 p.m. in the library's McManus Room and will cover both pain relief and support for caregivers, the library said.

A palliative-care specialist at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, Delgado-Guay will explain how medical teams work to improve quality of life of seriously ill parents, regardless of their diagnoses, the library said. He also will discuss the stress caregivers often experience.

The program is co-sponsored by St. Vincent's Medical Center and the SWIM Center for Cancer Care in Bridgeport, both of which share in the Anderson Center's treatment protocols and physician expertise, the library said.
