Fairfield University will present a live-from-London performance broadcast of "The Kitchen," by Arnold Wesker, on Thursday, Oct. 6, as part of the National Theatre Live in HD series. The event is part of the school's 2011-12 Arts & Minds season at the Regina A. Quick Center for the Arts, 1073 N. Benson Road.

The broadcast will take place at 2 p.m. with an encore showing 7 p.m Friday, Oct. 7.

The scene for the play is 1950s London in the kitchen of an enormous West End restaurant, where the orders are piling up in a post-war feast of soup, fish, cutlets, omelettes and fruit flans.

Thrown together by their work, chefs, waitresses and porters from across Europe -- English, Irish, German, Jewish -- argue and flirt as they race to keep up. The play premiered at the Royal Court in 1959 and has since been performed in more than 30 countries.

Tickets, $25, $20 seniors, and $15 students and children, may be bought through the Quick Center box office at 203-254-4010 or at www.quickcenter.com.
