NCTC closes season with `Charlie Brown'

The Northeast Children's Theatre Company, a nonprofit theater company for young audiences and families, will end its inaugural season with "You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown" on Saturday, May 4, and 11, and Sunday, May 5 and 12.

Performances will be held at 2 p.m. at Fairfield Theatre Company's StageOne, 70 Sanford St.

The musical comedy, featuring the characters from Charles Schulz's "Peanuts," is directed by Morgan Weitz and features a book, music and lyrics by Clark Gesner, according to a news release.

Broadway pops show at SHU Sunday

Sacred Heart University Band and combined university choirs will have a Broadway pops concert to benefit the Patty Cook Memorial Scholarship for the Performing Arts on Sunday, May 5, at 3 p.m. in the school's Edgerton Center for the Performing Arts, 5151 Park Ave., Fairfield.

The performance, titled "Best of Broadway!," will feature selections from musicals from the past 60 years, including those by Rodgers and Hammerstein and Andrew Lloyd Webber.

Admission is free, but a donation of $10 is suggested to support the scholarship fund.

Library schedules baby shower, tea

Fairfield Public Library will host an old-fashioned royal charity baby shower and afternoon tea to benefit the Center for Women and Families of Eastern Fairfield County on Tuesday, May 7, at 1:30 p.m. in the Rotary Room of the Main Library, 1080 Old Post Road, Fairfield.

The event will feature traditional baby shower games and a visit from Linda Urbach, author of "Momoirs, the Umbilical Cord Stops Here!"

Attendees are asked to bring gifts to the baby shower to be donated to the center, which offers programs and services to address the ongoing issues of domestic violence and sexual assault, the release states.

Persons who cannot attend but want to donate a gift may bring them to the library. For a list of gift suggestions, pick up a flyer at the library.

Market and Craft Show set for May 11

The Fairfield Woman's Club is planning its 31st annual Market and Craft Show Saturday, May 11, on the Town Hall Green.

The event is planned from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., rain or shine, and admission is free, the club said.

More than 60 professional craft vendors are expected to sell their wares. The market also will include baked goods, food vendors and a silent auction, the club said.

The Fairfield Woman's Club is a philanthropic group, and it said proceeds would aid its support of groups and individuals in education, health, the arts, and the environment locally, statewide and nationally.

Singer-songwriter Fuchs to play at FTC

Fairfield Theatre Company will present a performance by actress and singer-songwriter Dana Fuchs at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, May 11, at StageOne, 70 Sanford St. Doors open 7 p.m.

Fuchs draws her influences from gospel, blues, soul, R&B, rock and old school country, according to a news release.

Fuchs, who played Sadie in the Julie Taymor film "Across the Universe," has portrayed Janis Joplin in an off-Broadway production, "Love Janis."
