Say goodbye to the last weekend of the year's shortest month by heading out and enjoying some art, some food, some music and a little basketball. Here are some suggestions to get things started for Fairfield this weekend:

Add a little whimsy to your weekend Friday when FCBuzz Goes Live, a new collaborative project, hits the Fairfield Arts Center, 70 Sanford St., from 6 to 8 p.m. for the opening of "Seriously Whimsical," an exhibit featuring the works of husband and wife Hans Wilhem and Judy Henderson. Admission is free. For more information, visit www.fairfieldartscouncil.org.

Follow up the whimsy with laughs when Kathleen Madigan performs at 8 p.m. Friday at Fairfield University's Quick Center, 1073 North Benson Road. Tickets are $35 and $40. For more information, call 203-254-4010 or visit www.quickcenter.com.

Make it a slam dunk Saturday with a doubleheader of basketball at Sacred Heart University, 5151 Park Ave., as the college honors the 1986 Pioneer who won the NCAA Division II National Championship. It will be Alumni Day for both the men's and women's programs, with the women tipping off against the Monmouth Hawks at 1 p.m. During halftime, all the women's team alums will be recognized. At 3:30 p.m., the men's team takes to the hardwood, with a halftime ceremony honoring the 1986 team. For more information, visit www.sacredheartpioneers.com.

After the game head over to Super Duper Weenie, 306 Black Rock Turnpike, and get yourself a New Englander, a hot dog loaded with sauerkraut, bacon, mustard, sweet relish and raw onions, plus a batch of fresh cut french fries. For more information, call 203-334-3647 or visit www.superduperweenie.com.

Close out the weekend with music, New Orleans-style, when The Radiators take the stage at Fairfield Theatre Co., 70 Sanford St. The party band is on its farewell tour after 33 years of performing together. Doors open at 7 p.m. and tickets are $67. Call the box office at 203-259-1036 or visit fairfieldtheatre.org.
