Things to do in Fairfield this weekend
The ghouls and goblins are gone, but there are still plenty of treats to be found around Fairfield this weekend. Here's a few ideas:
Take a trip back in time Friday night and watch the live radio drama, "War of the Worlds," at Fairfield University's Quick Center, 1073 North Benson Road. Showtime is 8 p.m. and tickets are $25. Call 203-254-4010 or visit www.quickcenter.com.
No, not Beatlemania, but "Needlemania" takes over the Fairfield Woods Branch Library, 1147 Fairfield Woods Road, from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday. The symposium on knitting, sewing and other needle crafts is free. Visit www.fairfieldpubliclibrary.org or call 203-255-7308 for more information.
Take a taste, or two, at the Fairfield Foundation for Education's Wine Tasting and Silent Auction at 5 p.m. Saturday at the Fairfield Museum and History Center, 370 Beach Road. The event features wines from Harry's Wine and Liquor Mart, light food from Garden Catering and music by Kristen Graves. Tickets at $35 and $60 are available at the door. Visit fairfieldffe.org for more information.
Check out the Saturday Night Cafe Jam at 7 p.m. (Saturday, of course) at the just-opened Fairfield University Bookstore, 1499 Post Road. Providing the music at the free event will be Mike Falzone, Jivaro Barber and Dylan Connor. The cafe is part of the weekend-long grand opening festivities at the bookstore. Call 203-255-7756 or visit www.fairfieldbooks.bkstr.com for more information.
Learn all about "Bridgeport's Theatre Legacy" from Bridgeport historian Mary Witkowski at 1 p.m. Sunday at the Fairfield Museum and History Center, 370 Beach Road. Admission is $8; $5 for students and members. Call 203-259-1598 or visit www.fairfieldhistory.org.
