Things to do in Fairfield this weekend

You don't have to spend the long weekend standing in line at big-box retailers. Here are some other suggestions for how to fill the next three days:
On Friday, avoid the shopping frenzy and head to the sanctuary of the Pequot Library, 720 Pequot Ave., for its Black Friday Book Sale from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. There you'll find new or almost new books, CDs and DVDs and there will be live music while you shop. Call 203-259-0346, ext. 15, or visit www.pequotlibrary.org.
Saturday means it's time for the annual "Sticks for Soldiers" charity lacrosse tournament at Fairfield Ludlowe High School, 785 Unquowa Road. The benefit tourney starts at 9 a.m. For more information, visit www.sticksforsoldiers.org
Santa is in the house Saturday, when he arrives at the Sherman Green gazebo by firetruck at 10 a.m. Sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce, the festivities welcoming the Man in Red -- which last until 2:30 p.m. -- include a petting zoo, horse-and-buggy rides, grilled foods and vendors from a range of local civic groups and charities. For more information, call 203-255-1011.
Be nice to your car -- and your wallet -- and head over to the new Russell Speeders Car Wash at 620 Villa Ave. on Sunday. You'll be able to get a free car wash from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. to celebrate the grand opening of the new business. Call 203-331-1100 or visit www.russellspeeders.com
