Thomas R. Gaughan, 74, a Shelton resident who previously lived in Fairfield many years, and the husband of Rosemary McDevitt Gaughan, died Nov. 14, 2010, at the Ludlowe Center for Health and Rehabilitation in Fairfield.

Born in Shenandoah, Pa., he was the son of the late Thomas M. and Mary Tomko Gaughan. He graduated from Trenton Catholic High School in Trenton, N.J., and received a BA degree in business from Drexel University in 1958 and his master's degree from Drexel in 1961. He later served in the U.S. Army.

He started his business career at GE in Philadelphia and moved to Charlotte, N.C., as director of information systems for the Celanese Corp. and went on to become vice president of information systems at Standard Brands in New York City and chief information officer of American Can in Greenwich.

Survivors in addition to his wife include four children, Maripat and John O'Neill of Norwalk, Tom and Jeanne Gaughan of Southport, Maureen and Dan Cummings of Ridgewood, N.J., and Dennis and Maura Gaughan of Natick, Mass; 12 grandchildren, Matthew, Mollie, Brian, Bill, Colleen, Claire, Shannon, Patrick, Caroline, Megan, Ryan and Brendan.

A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10 a.m. Friday in St. Anthony of Padua Church, 149 South Pine Creek Road. Burial will be in Oak Lawn Cemetery. Calling hours are Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. in the Spear-Miller Funeral Home, 39 South Benson Road.
