Beginning in July, the Fairfield Citizen and the Westport News will appear in print once a week, on Fridays. The Wednesday print editions will move online, where our coverage of hyperlocal news, sports, schools, real estate, arts and community events will continue seven days a week with even more blogs, stories, photos, videos and citizens' voices.

We've decided to alter our traditional twice-a-week print schedule to reflect the 24/7 news cycle our local communities have come to expect. During the first five months of this year, your visits to our websites have soared -- up 284 percent in Fairfield and up 387 percent in Westport over the same period a year ago. You're coming to our sites more often and staying longer. Our goal is to serve up the news and information you want whenever and wherever you choose -- on your desktop, laptop, tablet, smartphone or, of course, in your weekly paper.

While our Wednesday print edition is going online, the Friday newspaper will continue to provide a bounty of community coverage, from independent and informative reports on public policy issues to entertaining riffs on local people, places and gatherings. The Fairfield and Westport weekly papers join Hearst Connecticut Media Group's five other weeklies publishing Fridays -- the Darien News, New Canaan News, Norwalk Citizen, Greenwich Citizen and Greater New Milford Spectrum.

We are committed to local news as an essential component of our journalistic mission to inform, enlighten and connect our readers through original, responsible coverage of our communities -- in print and online.

Thanks for reading.
