Billy Steers, creator of the children's book series "Tractor Mac," will be at the downtown Fairfield University Bookstore at 3 p.m. today (Saturday, Nov. 9) for a story time and book signing. A craft session and snack will follow.

With 10 titles now in the series, the "Tractor Mac" books have sold more than 300,000 copies. They were inspired by bedtime stories Steers created for his sons when they were young, which told of the adventures of their red toy tractor. The books include brightly colored, detailed illustrations and stories appropriate for young readers preschool to age 7. Steers, who grew up on a farm in Roxbury, is now a commercial pilot with American Airlines.

The event is free and open to the public. Book signing begins at 3 p.m. with the story time at 4 o'clock at the bookstore, 1499 Post Road.
