The Fairfield Public Library and Pequot Library are waiving fines on overdue materials this week in exchange for donations of food items for the Operation Hope food pantry.

Officials of the libraries said their Food for Fines Drive runs through this Saturday, Feb. 14.

Each fine will be forgiven for donation of an item on Operation Hope's website -- www.operationhopect.org. The food pantry assists needy individuals and families in town.

The program does not apply to overdue museum passes, damaged materials or items that have already been billed for replacement, the libraries said.

Fines will be forgiven at the Fairfield Public Library's main and Fairfield Woods branches, as well as the Pequot Library in the Southport section of town.
