Treehouse Comedy Club to host benefit for Fairfield Follies
The Treehouse Comedy Club will present an "Up Close and Comical" show to benefit the Fairfield Follies Foundation at 8 p.m. Friday, March 22, at the Patterson Club, 1118 Cross Highway. A social hour will begin at 7 p.m.
Shaffer, a Philadelphia native, has appeared on "The Tonight Show," "Comic Strip Live" on FOX TV, "An Evening at the Improv" and "Caroline's Comedy Hour" on A&E and VH1's "Stand-Up Spotlight."
Winn started his comedy career at the original Treehouse Comedy Club in Westport three decades ago and has been part of radio shows with Smith Barber and Chaz and AJ on WPLR 99.1FM. He has performed stand-up comedy on A&E's "Comedy on the Road," VH1's "Stand-up Spotlight" and other programs.
George, who made his comedy debut in his hometown of Boston before moving to New York City, is a trained actor and director. He has appeared at Carnegie Hall, the Village Gate and on local TV shows as a member of the Kitchen Table Comedy Team in New York City. He has also performed in concert with artists such as Chaka Khan, been in the films "Mo' Better Blues" and "Meteor Man" and appeared on shows such as Fox's "Comic Strip Live."
The foundation produces the annual Follies show, which has featured high-school students from the Greater Bridgeport area in Broadway musicals for the last 14 years. It also provides tuition-free professional-level theatrical training.
This year's show will be the 2005 musical "All Shook Up" featuring Elvis Presley's songs set to a story based on Shakespeare's "Twelfth Night." It will be performed Thursday, May 9, through Saturday, May 11, at Fairfield Warde High School.
The comedy show will also include desserts and coffee a cash bar and a silent auction.
Tickets, $35, may be purchased in advance with a $1.50 credit card servicing fee or at the door. Tables can be reserved for groups.
