Trio charged with shoplifting, eating groceries
Three Bridgeport woman -- one of them using a wheelchair -- face shoplifting charges after police said security personnel at Super Stop & Shop, 1160 Kings Highway Cutoff, saw them concealing unpaid merchandise and then eating and drinking food from the shelves in the store Monday afternoon.
According to the report, the trio went to a cash register and paid for some, but not all, of the merchandise. All proclaimed their innocence when confronted, according to the report, but police said they found $130 worth of concealed groceries in purses and the wheelchair.
Charged with sixth-degree larceny and conspiracy to commit sixth-degree larceny were Wanda E. Cruz, 55, of Maplewood Avenue; Melva Rivera, 57, also of Maplewood Avenue, and Crucita Pabon Velazquez, 61, of Barnum Avenue.
The women were all released on a promise to appear March 16 in Bridgeport Superior Court.
