The Norma F. Pfriem Breast Care Center this month received a pair of $1,000 donations from Fairfield fundraisers, including one organized by a student at his school.

Paul Blanco, a student at the Unquowa School in Fairfield, presented the center a check for $1,000 from a fundraiser he organized.

Students at the private day school normally are required to wear uniforms. But after winning a drawing to be "principal for a day," Blanco organized a "wear pink" dress-down day and asked students who participated to donate 25 cents for the breast center.

The majority of students participated, the center said, and most donated quite a bit more than 25 cents per student.

Also this month, Brooke Bento of Fairfield presented the center with a check for $1,000, the proceeds of a fundraiser she conducted at her workplace, the center said.

Bento has been involved with the Fairfield Christmas Tree Festival, which annually chooses charity beneficiaries of the event. This year, the breast center is a beneficiary. But Bento went a step further, the center said, putting on her own fundraiser as well.

The Pfriem Breast Care Center provides women with breast-health services regardless of ability to pay. The two donations will be used to treat women in need, the center said.
