Two face charges after Fairfield U. drug bust
A Fairfield University student was arrested on drug charges Tuesday after an incident at a campus dorm.
Staff in the residence hall told campus security officers that the odor of marijuana was emanating from a room.
Police, summoned to the campus by school security, said they found the controlled substance in the room of Matthew Gilmartin, 18, of Newton, Mass. He was charged with possession of a controlled substance, possession with intent to sell and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was released on $500 bond and scheduled to appear Sept. 27 in Bridgeport Superior Court.
Tommaso Piazolla, 19, of Trumbull -- described as a friend of Gilmartin -- was also arrested Tuesday on campus and charged with possession of drug paraphernalia.
Police said the drug paraphernalia was found in Piazolla's vehicle after the arrest of Gilmartin. He was issued a summons to appear Sept. 24 in Bridgeport Superior Court.
