U.S. Senate, state House primaries today in Fairfield
Polls opened at 6 a.m. today in Fairfield and across the state for voters registered with the Democratic and Republican parties to choose their respective standard-bearers for an open U.S. Senate seat in November.
There also is a local contest for the Democratic nomination in the 132nd House of Representatives district.
In the Democrats' 132nd House primary, Sue Brand, a Board of Education member and endorsed candidate, is being challenged by Kevin Coyner, a newcomer to Farifield politics who works as a Greenwich firefighter.
The number of registered Democrats in Fairfield eligible to vote in the primary is 9,836, while the number of voters registered with the GOP eligible to cast ballots in that primary is 10,333.
The town's 14,338 unaffiliated voters and the 199 voters registered with other political parties cannot vote in any of the primaries.
Voting will take place from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the following Fairfield polls (the sites for Districts 4 and 10 have been moved from the usual location because of school renovations) for the U.S. Senate contests:
District 1. Senior Center gym, 100 Mona Terrace
District 2. St. Pius School all-purpose room, 834 Brookside Drive
District 3. Dwight School all-purpose room, 1600 Redding Road
District 4. Fairfield Woods Middle School cafeteria, 1115 Fairfield Woods Road
District 5. McKinley School gym, 60 Thompson St.
District 6. Fairfield Warde High School old gym, 755 Melville Ave.
District 7. North Stratfield School all-purpose room, 190 Putting Green Road
District 8. Holland Hill School all-purpose room, 200 Meadowcroft Road
District 9. Fairfield Ludlowe High School cafeteria, 785 Unquowa Road
District 10. Fairfield Museum and History Center meeting room, 370 Beach Road
The Democratic primary for the 132nd House nomination will be on the ballot for at least some of the voters in every local voting district, except District 7.
Voters are generally advised to vote at their usual polling station unless they have received a notice in the mail about a change.
