Just running in to grab a bagel on the way to work? You can always go to Village Bagels at 653 Post Road, next to the gas station.
Want to sit down at a table for a leisurely breakfast or lunch? Then the newest Village Bagels, just a block down the Post Road, in the Bob's Store shopping center, may be more to your taste.
"We opened in December," said Shannon Bowman, of the newest Village Bagel outlet, which is located in the storefront once the longtime home of Gold's Deli and other business. "We're going to try and get a couple of tables for outside for the summer and fall."
The new location has plenty of tables and booths, and even a child-sized table toward the back, near the buckets of crayons. On the wall is a flat-screen television. "We wanted to make it kid-friendly," Bowman said. "They can be shopping at Bob's or getting a haircut, and they can come in here and get a rainbow bagel and they're all set."
In fact, a few weeks ago the bagel shop had a visit from Sesame Street characters Elmo and the Cookie Monster, Bowman said. "The big thing was to see if Cookie Monster would eat a bagel. He did -- a rainbow one, of course."
Both Village Bagel locations, Bowman said, are popular with students at Fairfield University, whose campus is up North Benson Road.
It may be a new outlet, but the Village Bagels' menu remains basically the same.
Village Bagels also has a location just over the Fairfield border in Westport at 1874 Post Road East and another in Greenwich at 375 Greenwich Ave., as well as a Mr. Bagel Express drive-through at 336 Westport Ave. in Norwalk.
