Warde boys soccer gets swift-kicked by Staples, 2-1
One coach was pleased with his team's performance Tuesday afternoon and the other was not after the Fairfield Warde's boys soccer game with Staples.
However, the disappointed coach was the one who came out on top.
Staples got a goal in the 53rd minute by Steven Denowitz and held on behind good play by goalkeeper Connor Walsh as the Wreckers held off the Mustangs, 2-1, at Warde.
"Three points is three points," Staples Head Coach Dan Woog said. "We'll take it."
Warde's Guthrie Carpenter scored the lone goal for the Mustangs off of a free kick from midfield by Kevin Petroccio.
"We came back, we rallied," Warde Head Coach Justin Ottavio said. "And then they countered with a beautiful goal."
Despite Staples' win, Woog was less than pleased with his squad's performance.
"I don't think we played very smart, I don't think we're where we want to be," Woog said. "It showed us the work we have to do."
Warde will play again Thursday at home against Darien. Staples will visit Trumbull on Thursday.
