A determined Fairfield Warde field hockey team was revved up Tuesday night when it hosted Staples.

Warde came out strong from the get-go and played favored Staples to a 1-1 tie and ended the regular season at 5-7-3-1. The Lady Wreckers also played their last regular season game and head into the FCIAC tournament as the fourth-seed with an 8-3-3-1 record.

The Lady Mustangs began the game with five penalty corners and finished the game with an 11-5 advantage in corners. Junior Lindsay Adams had two shots off of corners in the early-going, which Staples senior goalie Chris Lueb (nine saves) stopped.

Although Warde had the advantage in corners, the Lady Wreckers outshot the hosts, 19-10 and had many breakaways. Senior captain Misha Strage poked home a rebound with 4:43 remaining in the half to give Staples a 1-0 lead. Strage was relentless all game and had close to half of her team's shots.

However, Lady Mustang senior goalie Lindsey Lopes (16 saves) was equal to the task and made many diving saves to rob Strage.

Lopes kept Warde in the game and with 32.3 seconds left in regulation, Lady Mustang senior Caroline Myers shot a blistering shot and Lueb saved it. However, sophomore Megan Hines poked in the rebound to tie it at 1-1 - which is how the game ended.
