A water line break in the Southport section of town disrupted service to about 35 customers Thursday afternoon, and reduced traffic to one travel lane on Mill Hill Terrace.

The disruption was reported shortly after 3:30 p.m. following a break to a service line connected to a water main, according to Lorraine Bukowski, a spokeswoman for Aquarion Water Co.

The line break cut off water service to about 35 properties on Mill Hill Terrace, High Meadow Road, Carriage Drive and Open Gate Lane. The service line break was repaired by about 4 p.m., Bukowski said, but crews were still on site "refilling the main."

The cause of the service line rupture was not immediately known.

Bukowksi advised customers in the affected area that if their water looks a little dirty after restoration of service that they should keep the water running until clarity returns. "Service interruption stirs up naturally occurring minerals," she said.
