William Brennan, 94, a longtime Westport resident, died Aug. 10 at home.
Bill in 1916 in Manchester, he served in the Army Air Corps from 1939 to 1946, primarily as an armistice officer and retired with the rank of captain.
He spent his entire business career at Travelers Insurance Co., starting in the mailroom and retiring as regional vice president of group health and life insurance. An avid golfer, he was a member of the Patterson Club in Fairfield for many years and also enjoyed playing at Longshore Club Park in Westport.
After he retired, he and his wife, Jean, volunteered at Norwalk Hospital, for nearly 20 years in the Emergency Department and then the Intensive Care Unit for the last five years. In March, he received the President's Award in recognition of more than 10,000 hours of service to the hospital.
Survivors include his daughters, Jude Brennan of New York City and Colleen Brennan of Fairfield; a son Bill and Pam Brennan and their daughters Nicole, Mackenzie and Katie, all of Fairfield. He was predeceased by his wife, Jean, in 1995 after 47 years of marriage.
Calling hours are Saturday, Aug. 13, from 3 to 6 p.m., in the Shaughnessey Banks Funeral Home, 50 Reef Road, Fairfield. A memorial service will take place at noon Sunday, Aug. 14, in the Greenfield Hill Congregational Church, 1045 Old Academy Road, Fairfield. Burial will be private.
