Staring a tie in the face against a scrappy 2-3 Bassick, the Fairfield Warde boys soccer team took to the offensive Monday and hit a goal just in time to secure a win.

Warde rallied from a 1-0 deficit with two goals, including one by Kevin Petroccio with just 1:26 left in the game, as the Mustangs stymied Bassick 2-1 at Fairfield Warde High School.

"We needed this game for points in the FCIAC and points in the state," Warde Head Coach Justin Ottavio said.

Taylor Rosenblum had assists on both Mustangs' goals. And Guthrie Carpenter scored as Warde won its third straight game.

"I'm happy with where we're going," Ottavio said.

Warde goalkeeper Dylan Strachen stopped four shots and allowed just a first-half goal on a free kick by Bassick's striker Nick Whyte. Bassick keeper Gideon Masala stopped seven shots, including a penalty kick.

"He was good in the air and stopped a PK," Ottavio said of Masala. "He's very athletic."

Warde will take on Brien McMahon on Wednesday. The Senators were 2-1-3 entering play with Bridgeport Central on Monday. Game time will be 7 p.m.
