Woman arrested for breaking into truck outside police station

BRIDGEPORT - Add this one to the list of stupid criminal tricks.

Police said 32-year-old Markita Johnson couldn’t resist the break in target of a brand new GMC Denali pickup truck on Monday. But she probably should have considered the location first - right across from the Police Department.

Officers were in the lobby when they said they heard the sound of glass breaking and then a car alarm. When they got outside they saw Johnson rummaging around inside the truck, the glass from the shattered back window all over the street.

Police said Johnson told them she was attempting to retrieve some money the owner, her friend, had left in the truck. But not only wasn’t the owner a friend of Johnson, he had never seen her before, police said.

Johnson was charged with six-degree larceny and criminal mischief. She was later released after posting $1,500 bond.
