Gail Reese, 38, of Ansonia, has been charged with third-degree larceny and 40 counts of second-degree forgery for allegedly making fraudulent deposits into an account she opened up at a Webster Bank branch office in Fairfield.
Reese turned herself surrendered to Fairfield police on outstanding warrant last Friday. Police began an investigation following a complaint from a Webster fraud investigator in June, according to Sgt. Suzanne Lussier, a Fairfield police spokesman.
Reese apparently deposited a local doctor's business checks into her personal account, police said, adding that there appeared to be 40 fraudulent deposits totaling $16,552.
After her arrest, Reese told police she is a single mother having a difficult time financially.
She was released on a promise to appear Nov. 26 in Bridgeport Superior Court.
