Woman faces DUI charge with 2-year-old in car
A Bridgeport woman was arrested on warrant Wednesday, charged with driving under the influence with her 2-year-old son in the car.
Monica Negron, 40, was also charged with risk of injury to a minor in connection with a June 3 accident on Villa Avenue.
Negron was driving east on Villa Avenue when she drove over the double yellow line into oncoming traffic and hit another car, police said. Her son suffered minor injuries in the crash.
Both she and her son were taken to a local hospital for evaluation. The interior of the car had a strong odor of alcohol and a container with wine was seized as evidence.
Negron, who lives on Dewey Street in Bridgeport, turned herself in at police headquarters and was released on a $1,000 bond. She is scheduled to appear Sept. 18 in Bridgeport Superior Court.
She also has a breach of peace charge pending against her stemming from a July 12 incident with her child's father, who has custody of their child. According to reports, Negron slapped her ex-boyfriend in the face during an argument.
On June 5, Negron was taken to St. Vincent's Medical Center in Bridgeport after she was found intoxicated and lying on the sidewalk on Kings Highway, police said. She had a unopened bottle of wine with her at the time.
Police previously were involved with Negron on May 26 when she was found sleeping in her car at the intersection of Commerce Drive and Black Rock Turnpike, and again April 4 when she was found passed out on the ground in the parking lot at Planet Fitness, 111 Black Rock Turnpike.
In both instances, Negron was taken to the hospital for treatment of suspected intoxication.
