Kathleen Mascia, 48, of 80 Longfellow Ave., was charged Thursday with possession of a controlled substance, failure to hold prescription drugs in a container and second-degree failure to appear in court.

Mascia was walking down Kings Highway East wearing only one sandal around 11:15 a.m., appeared to be intoxicated, police said. Her speech was also slurred, police said.

Police discovered an active warrant for Mascia's arrest and said that, while transporting her to headquarters, she dropped a blue Alprazolam pill in the back seat of the cruiser. Then, inside a holding cell, she reportedly was found with seven more pills, police said.

Because police feared that Mascia might have overdosed, police transported her to St. Vincent's Medical Center in Bridgeport.

She is scheduled to appear Aug. 26 in Bridgeport Superior Court.
