Woman suffers minor bite as pit bull, Shepherd fight at Lake Mohegan
A Weston woman who tried to break up a fight between two dogs at Lake Mohegan on Thursday afternoon was bitten in the knee, according to police.
The woman, who was trying to separate her German Shepherd and a pit bull owned by an elderly Bridgeport woman, received a small puncture wound to her knee during the incident. She took herself to the hospital for treatment, police said.
The incident happened around 2 p.m. in the Lake Mohegan parking lot at 880 Morehouse Highway.
Both dogs' rabies shots were up to date, according to Animal Control Officer Paul Miller, who said fights between dogs are not an unusual occurrence at the open space property. The pit bull owner was waiting with her dog, which was leashed, when officers arrived at the scene.
The pit bull has been quarantined at the shelter for 14 days to observe its behavior. Miller said in instances like the fight, dog owners have the option to quarantine their pet at home or at the town's animal shelter.
